Hello Friends, as promised here is the other 1968 album by Jaya Bose (A.K.A Joya Biswas) with Himangshu Biswas on Bansuri (who also played on the LP I posted not long ago with Dulal Roy on Santoor). That's it! Short and sweet. Feel free to comment on the artists or the music - or anything music related :-)

B1 - Raga Desh (Gat In Dipchandi)

  1. This is my first time posing a post on your blog and I first just wanted to say that your work is appreciated beyond words by myself and the many others who visit this site.

Perhaps the article below might give you some insight into Joya (Jaya) Biswas (nee Bose). She talks about her 10 year training with Ravi Shankar and her experience of him.

I am wondering if Himanshu and Joya Biswas were married. Himanshu Biswas was a long-time music director/arranger for Hindusthan Records and had a long-term association with one of the company's leading recording artists, the late Ramkumar Chatterjee. Ramkumar's son, Srikumar, holds Joya Biswas in great esteem and sings regularly at her annual memorial concert held in Pondicherry. It's just a theory....

Thanks again for the fantastic work.

    1. Thanks for the article. Please feel free to post any time. I enjoy reading and discussing the music and artists. I'm not sure about the marriage - could be so - but there is just so much mystery and almost nothing online haha.

    1. Thanks PS. I have been putting 'rare' in the post headlines for LPs where there are 2 or less physical copies for purchase on the internet. But indeed nearly all the posts are recordings not accessible without a fairly moderate investment in the LP and quality playing equipment at home. Also, there is the risk of the International post system. I've had a few irreplaceable items get lost in the post. It's such a tragedy when this happens as there is only a finite number of copies available and each loss or damage reduces this number... So thank you again for listening to the posts - validating all the time it takes to collect and digitize the works. It would be a shame if I were the only person to benefit from my collection.
